Overpass construction in Tanzania at advance stage.

The construction of the overpass in  Dar es Salaam is at an advanced stage of completion. The Japanese government through the Japan International Cooperation Agency is funding the project. The US$45m project comes as a great news to resident who have in recent years endure endless traffic jams. The traffic jams leading to the junction of Nelson Mandela Expressway and Nyerere Road will reduce after building the overpass.

Project engineer for Tanroads, Rajab Manger said that the project should be completed before October 2018. I’m confident that motorists will soon start to enjoy stress-free driving at the Tazara junction after construction is over. According to him, the contractors has done fine job, with no record of accident since construction started in 2016.

Mr. manger was speaking to delegation, led by Lehlohonolo Moramotse on a country study tour. The delegates tours should help the country know how to tackle challenges faced in the sector.

Lesotho’s Public Works, Transport and Communications minister, Lehlohonolo Moramotse said “I came to Dar es Salaam with a number of experts to study the road infrastructure. Dar es Salaam rapid transit system has inspired me a lot, and I want to see it more in my country. I hope one day Maseru residents will park their private car and take rapid buses to their workplaces.”

The project has paved way for Dar es Salaam rapid transit to offer Lesotho the sure advice and assistance should the country decide to set up a BRT system in its capital.
